The Home Management Binder

***Update: August 2011***  I noticed a lot of people from ABFOL checking out this post...I did in fact complete this challenge and you can see the final post here: Our Home Management Binder Complete ***  Thanks for stopping by!

The challenge this week over at Bowl Full of Lemons is to create your home management binder.  I'm assuming that most people have one of know the binder that keeps track of the calendar, menu plans, bills to be paid, emergency info, etc.  I've slowly been setting this up over the past year but don't really feel like my system was working for me.

I've got a clearer vision of what I'd like mine to look like and I'm going to spend the week setting it up.  I'm trying to resist the urge to go buy one of those adorable binders from Target...I've got plenty of binders here (just not NEARLY as cute!).

My plan is to have an Emergency Contact/Info sheet, Calendar for the year, month and week, Weekly meal plan, To-do list, Cleaning schedule (ha!), and bills section.

I've been working this past week on our Legacy Binder.  This is proving to take more time than I had anticipated.  In case you're not familiar, it's the binder you make for your loved ones in the event anything should happen to you.  It contains ALL of the information they might need to take care of your estate.  It's quite a bit of info and I'm trying to gather it all before my parents arrive next week.  I'd like for someone else to have a copy of it.  This has also meant I've been spending some time thinking about things like our wills and funeral times :-p, but totally necessary.  It will be nice to have it done and I'm anxious for the peace of mind in knowing that we are up to date on that.

It's just one step closer to being a "grown up" ;-)

Here's to a great week!!

  1. Oh I do like the idea of a legacy binder and we ought to have one of those too, but it does sound kind of depressing to work on huh? I'll add that to my list of things I ought to do or work on this year. Great idea! Have fun with your HMB. Mine is my home's user manual after all the years I've used it and I love it (and it's not a cute new binder either hehe).

  2. way to go on putting together a legacy binder. we really need to do a will.
