Project Life Tuesday: honoring life.

Sometimes Project Life means documenting things that are hard.  This is one of those things.

Today, in my husband's hometown of Weston, Mo, a family is celebrating the life of their son, Brian.  He fought courageously, and gracefully through his battle with carcinoid cancer.  He went to Heaven on Friday.  He was 36.

Over the past few days, I've been reading the messages to him and his family through a website set up to help keep everyone informed.  They are truly inspirational and heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Brian, very briefly, when he attended our wedding in 2007.  I remember thinking it was a little odd that someone who doesn't know us very well would make a long distance trip over...I realize now that while he was coming to rejoice in our happiness, he was also coming to celebrate with his family.  His parents are close friends with  my in-laws and they too, traveled to be with us.  Knowing how hard it is to be away from your family, I'm glad he made the trip over and had those extra days with his parents.

The Hoffman family has been amazing in his journey.  Their faith in God, love for their son, and closeness as a family has brought me to tears.  I don't know that I would be as strong as I have witnessed them to be.

On Sunday, as I was driving up to church, I snapped this shot of the sunrise.  I couldn't help but think that this must be Brian's new view.  And as sad as it is that he has passed away, we know that he is in the loving embrace of our Creator...and there is no better place than that.
