Pinspiration: Slime

I think I have over 200 things pinned in my "crafts" and "kids" folders on Pinterest.  Not sure what Pinterest is?  Think of it as a digital pin board/dream book...remember when we'd rip stuff out of magazines?  Pinterest takes care of that :-)  I LOVE that I don't have to have bits of paper everywhere...

One day last week when my boys were in fine form before lunch, I needed an activity to engage them, to turn our afternoon around and to get them busy for a few minutes while I tried to get some Shaklee work done.  Enter Pinterest.

We made Slime.....or Oobleck.....or whatever you want to call it in your house.  It's a classic preschool activity and given that my science knowledge is at about that level, I had fun playing with it too :-)

You need 1 part water, 2 parts Corn Starch.  The boys wanted different colours, so I put the food colouring in the water before mixing in the corn starch.  They both loved spooning it into the bowl and trying to mix it up.  I did most of the mixing due to the nature of the end product, but as soon as they could, they dove in with their hands!

If you've never made this stuff before, it changes from solid to liquid depending on the pressure it's under....so if you hit it, it's solid....if you slowly let your fingers slide in, it's a liquid.  You can pick it up and squeeze it into a solid, then open your hand slowly and it oozes out.  Seriously....does it get better than that?!  When you're 2.5 and 4, it's the best. thing. ever.

Anything that keeps my little monkeys this happy is a big winner in my book!  The best part?  Super duper, easy peasy clean up.
