31 DAYS OF FALL: Pea Wreath

DAY 3: PEA WREATH

**This is a repost from 2011 and I should note that my once Green wreath turned a lovely shade of yellow after it had been hanging in the window for a year...I threw it out but I plan on making another again soon**

I was inspired by a pic on Pinterest of a Pea Wreath....yep, that's right....Split Peas...glued to a wreath.

I decided to tackle this one and I think it turned out GREAT.  I was pretty hesitant as I was going along, and I got several quizzical looks from the Hubs and a few "Mum, that looks TERRIBLE" from AJ.  But in the end, it turned out alright and I think it looks great hanging in my kitchen.

Here are the supplies I used:  foam wreath ($3.99 with coupon at Michaels), 1 bag of dried peas ($0.79), 1 stem of flowers ($1.99 from Michaels), ribbon ($1.99)...I also had to buy a new glue gun and got that at Hobby Lobby for $3.  Grand total (minus the gun) $9ish.  Not too shabby considering Pottery Barn would probably charge $450 for the exact. same. thing.

Right at the point where my glue gun died :-(  The process was super simple...glue, press on peas, glue, press on peas, fill in spots...etc.

TA-DA!!

Close-up:  It's not perfect, but I think because the wreath itself is green, it hides some of the spots where the peas just refuse to stick!

My little smarty-pants who despite thinking the wreath is "terrible", was insistent on having his photo taken with it to post here on the blog.

It's current resting spot...I like the contrast of the green in the kitchen.
It's a nice break from the red and yellow!

So there you have it...the Pea Wreath.  What do YOU think?  Love it? Hate it?

  8. I think it's fun! My mom had one like it, only smaller, when I was a kid (roughly a million years ago).
