Summer Fun Friday: Saint Louis, Missouri

Thanks for stopping by Almond Place! I hope you'll grab a cup of coffee and read along!

This summer, Jimmy and I did something we have never done. We ditched the kids and went on a little holiday. And when I say little, I mean little. We took off 4 hours to the east to spend two nights in Saint Louis. In fact, the last time we went away together was on our honeymoon. To say we were ridiculously excited is an understatement.

I have never had trouble leaving our kids but until now, the opportunity had never presented itself quite right. Like many of you, I'm sure, we live in a city where we have no one. No family, no friends close enough to take them overnight and hiring a sitter overnight is cost prohibitive.

So here we were...alone in Saint Louis! It was awesome. It gave us time to reconnect as a couple, explore a city I had only ever driven through once and to specifically cheer on our favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals.

We stayed up late. We slept in. We ate a ton of sushi. We took in two baseball games. We walked a lot. We visited the Arch. We explored the City Museum. We checked out Forest Park. We went to the cutest little pizza place called Pi. We talked and talked and talked.

Honestly, it felt like being back on our honeymoon...with a few years of experience under our belts. We both left that weekend refreshed, energized and ready to tackle our upcoming busy season. We also spent much of the weekend talking about doing this annually. Now that the kids aren't babies anymore, this will hopefully be easier even if it means simply escaping to a different part of our own city for a couple of nights.

It was truly a wonderful weekend! Thanks for reading our Summer Fun Friday!
