31 Days to a Peaceful Holiday Season: Gifts for Moms & Dad

Hi! Welcome back to Almond Place!  This month, I'm talking my way through 31 days to a peaceful holiday season. It's part of a writing project from Write 31 Days where we focus on a topic of our choice for 31 days.  You can catch up on the rest of the posts HERE.

Yesterday, I spoke about my little family's gift giving strategy. We use the follow little saying to help keep our purchases in check.

Something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read.

Based on this, I figured I'd offer some suggestions in each category to help us all get a jump start on our gift giving!

Gifts for Mom:

Want: Spa Finder Gift Card I don't know very many moms who wouldn't love this! This type of gift card allows you to find a spa in your area that accepts it and there are so many options!  I've been given a couple of these cards the past couple of years and I love them!

Need: Hustlemama Tumblers My friend Shannon owns the most awesome little Etsy shop. We Mamas do not get enough water. I find I do much better if I have a fun cup to drink it out of.  There are a bazillion fabric choices and I love supporting someone who is local to me :-) Every Mama needs one of these!

WearStitch Fix is one of my new favorite things! I've been using them for about a year now.  They are a personal styling service and allow you to schedule "fixes" where you receive 5 items of clothing/accessories. You have 3 days to try them on, keep what you want, keep it all, or send it back! I've found some amazing pieces of clothing for relatively reasonable cost and I'm alway excited to get my fix! They also have gift cards available which is the way to go if you're shopping for someone else!

Read: Seeing the Every Day  I could not love this publication more if I tried.  Stunning images, compelling stories, and their ability to take the "everyday" and make it all extraordinary is what pull me into this magazine every time it comes in the mail.

Notes from a Blue Bike by Tsh Oxenreider.  This book is awesome. I've been reading Tsh's blog since she started it back in 2007.  I just know she and I would be best friends if we ever met in real life.  Tsh speaks my language....being intentional, living in the moment, and seeking a peaceful, simplified life. She and her family are traveling the world this year and are currently in China with her family of 5....3 kids under 10. She and her husband are my heroes.  It's a beautiful book with a great message.

Gifts for Dad: I will not lie when I say shopping for my husband is impossible. The guy just buys want he wants when he wants it and even then, he doesn't want very much! I KNOW I'm not the only wife in this predicament! Hopefully these suggestions will help you out :-)

Want: Star Wars These are a classic Dad gift. My husband loves watching these with our kids. What Dad doesn't want to share their love of Star Wars with their kids? The original three movies are a sure fire hit!

Need: Amazon Gift Card Yep, it's a cop-out....I know. But honestly? This is what my hubs needs! So much of what he needs he gets on Amazon...so instead of plotting that $ out of our budget during the month, he can spend it when he wants to and get what he wants :-)

Lucky JeansHarry's Shaving Supplies: The Hubs found these online about 6 months ago and loves their products. I'm a sucker for the packaging and webdesign-ha! Don't tell the Hubs, but I love their products, too.  Their razors are top  notch and almost every  Daddy needs to trim the pricklies ;-)

Wear: Men's Lucky Jeans My husband rarely buys clothes. These jeans have been a staple in his wardrobe. They're flattering for him, and don't come with a totally insane price tag.  They are still by no means cheap, but these jeans have held up well for several years and I think they're a great pick!

Read: Kindle This was at the top of the Hubs' list...of course he bought one himself, so it's off our official Christmas list, I can tell you he loves it! It's freed up our bookshelves and while I myself need to feel the paper, and turn the pages, the Hubs loves his Kindle.  In fact, I've never seen him read as much as I have in the last month. He's always preferred audio books while he's biking or puttering around the house, but this has changed that for him! This gift is a little pricier but could be well worth it for all of you!
So there you have it....my basic list. Hope you enjoyed the suggestions....and if you've got any others for Dads, I'm all ears!!

Happy Friday!
