31 Days to a Peaceful Holiday Season: Kitchen Prep

Hi there! Welcome to Almond Place!  This month, I'm on a quest to help make all of our holidays a little simpler and stress free!  I'm joining 1600 other writers at Write 31 Days where we focus on one topic for the entire month of October.  I hope you've been able to check out some other blogs and are having as much fun as I am gearing up for the holidays.  You can find all of the previous posts in this series HERE.

This week, my goal is to focus on some action items while I still have a little extra time.

Today's task?  Evaluate my kitchen needs. We all know we do a lot more cooking and baking this time of year.  I've got my tried and true recipes for cookies, and pies and meals.  What I'm not sure I have is....everything I need to make those happen!  I'm talking spices, extra baking supplies (flour, sugar), storage containers, saran wrap, baking cups, etc.

I'm going to take a quick inventory of the supplies I do have...toss any expired food items (spices) from last year and make a list of what needs to be new.  I'm also going to inspect my pots, pans, and baking ware to make sure I've got what I need.  I know I need a new frying pan and baking sheet.  Knowing this now, and making these purchases this week allow me plenty of time to find a good deal, as well as not leaving me hanging when I need to crank out a couple dozen cookies.

I also know that every single one of my knives is in desperate need of some sharpening.  I get so lazy about this and I know it drives my Home Ec. Teacher Mom absolutely bonkers when she comes to visit and my knives are useless.  We have a great little farmers market across the street from my house on Saturday mornings and there just happens to be a knife sharpening guy there.  I'll be heading over there to get them taken care of ASAP!

So there you have it, my task for the day...start getting that kitchen ready!
