Viola/Voila: Tuesday Talk Link Party #4

Ok friends...time for a little pet peeve chat ;-)

I've seen time and time again the misuse of the word VIOLA....a musical instrument....for the word VOILA...a french word essentially meaning: TA-DA! or more officially "There it is!"
Now, I realize that some of these could be typos given that O and I are right next to each other on the keyboard, but I think that well meaning writers simply don't know which one to use.

Being both a musician AND fluent in french, this gets my goat EVERY time.

There you have it...my pet peeve of the day.  How about you?  What's your pet peeve?!

  1. Hehe :D How funny on that one, Mandy! One of my big pet peeves is when people leave the windshield wipers going after the rain stops or don't change it to the appropriate speed to correspond with the rain volume. It's one of those things I try and just keep my mouth shut about, because the person 1. is driving in poor weather 2. is usually my husband 3. will notice eventually ;) So, Voila :D there's my two cents!

  2. I see this one all the time - oy/oui and it drives me nuts, too! Oui means yes in French, Oy is a Yiddish term which does not mean yes:)

  3. My pet peeve involves one of the same words. It drives me nuts when people say or write "Wa-laa" instead of of "Voila". Ugh, even writing it makes me shiver!

  7. That is funny! My pet peeve is when people don't clear the cooking time off the microwave....especially when there's less than 10 seconds left. Just wait a few more seconds!!!! And when those few seconds aren't cleared off then you can't see what time it is. Grrrrrr! Haha. -Jess
